School Social Worker

Start:    1st September 2020

Salary:     NJC 18-27 - NHS Band 5 

Contract type: Part- time (full time considered for the right candidate). 39 weeks but 52 weeks would be considered for the right person. Pay pro-rata.

East Midlands Academy Trust are looking to appoint a School Social Worker.This is an exciting time to join EMAT as it continues to grow with a whole trust purpose of “every child deserves to be the best that they can be”.

The successful candidate will work in partnership with the Headteachers across the Trust in addressing the needs of students. You will act as the EMAT “corporate parent” to ensure legal and moral entitlement for all pupils and students are met by the statutory bodies responsible for doing so.

You will work alongside the central team and senior leadership teams to provide support, addressing relevant issues within the schools and providing counselling for pupils and students with personal and psychological issues.

The role will include:

  • Supporting the Head of Governance on legal and family issues.
  • Supervision and support for EMAT school based DSL team.
  • Active participation in reviews and interactions with LADO and MASH.
  • Counselling students with personal and psychological issues that affect their performance, behaviour and socialisation in school.
  • Provide counselling sessions, treatment plans or workshops as necessary and establish prevention programs and intervention plans.
  • Communicating with students to determine the areas in which they may need assistance or counselling.
  • Administer educational social skills groups, classroom presentations and meetings on recognised aspects of concern for students.
  • Serve as connection between school and families to encourage positive co-operative processes in planning for the students by ensuring engagement of parent or guardian in school activities.
  • Work with parents and students in a confidential and caring manner and assist the family and school in any way required to bridge the gap between family and school.
  • Serve as liaisons between schools, family services, students, homes, child guidance clinics, courts, protective services, doctors and other contacts, to help children who face challenges such as poverty, disabilities or abuse.
  • Contribute to the development of the educational system by, for example sharing effective practice, working with other academies and promoting Trust initiatives.

The successful candidate will have

  • A degree in Social Work.
  • Current SWE registration.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to develop position relationships as the key foundations to a successful future.
  • Experience of working with child protection, child in need and looked after children cases.
  • Experience of children and families statutory social work.
  • Experience of turning policy into effective practice
